Valentine Villa Afternoon Delight

14 02 2009

The Hillcrest School Senior Class hosted the Valentine Villa Afternoon Delight this afternoon, complete w/ decorations, tablecloths, a pianist, and some delicious food! We enjoyed choices of  a beverage (fruity slushy, punch w/ fruit, or frappacino made w/ donated Starbuck’s Coffee!),two lunch items (pizza roll, hot dog, spring roll, caesar salad), and a  dessert (Valentine’s cake, ice cream sundae, banana split, French silk pie), all delivered to your table by one of the senior class students, dressed up and looking very sharp. All of the food was wonderful…especially the REAL ice cream, which is very much a treat here! When we arrived from our long journey (the 5 minute walk across campus!), we had the pleasure of seeing Dave and Gretchen Peterson walk up behind us in as we waited for our table. They are a couple from Edmonds who are now teaching at Rafiki Orphanage, between Jos and Miango. When the NMT visitied Rafiki last year, we discovered that Dave had been an architect in Edmonds, and had done design work for Camano Chapel, and for the two new elementary schools on Camano Island (Elger Bay and Utsalady). Dave and Gretchen visited Camano Chapel last summer when they were home on furlough, so they knew we were returning and were hoping to find us at this afternoon’s event, since the email addres they left with us last summer was incorrect. We invited them to join us at our table and spent a very pleasant afternoon under the shade of the mango trees, enjoying music, food and fellowship!

Hello Paynes! It’s so nice to read your blog and see all the pictures. It always helps me to be able to picture where you are. We prayed for you tonight during our family prayer time. I believe that Dave and Gretchen shared on a Sunday evening at the Chapel last year. They seemed like really awesome people (great sense of humor if I remember right – that always helps on the mission field!) Give a big hug to the girls from Teacher Berna!
